Are you looking for a magnetic board for your home, business or educational institution? Would you like to learn about all the options and what types of writing boards are available? Then you have come to the right place. First, I advise you to read the article entitled: How big a magnetic board do I need? . Now let’s see what types of boards are most common. These are sliding, hinged and lift-up boards . Below is a comparison of these types of magnetic boards.

Sliding boards
Sliding boards are the most common alternative to a lack of space. In fact, they are not only an alternative to a lack of space, but are also very convenient, aesthetic, have a long service life and the possibility of installing many additional functions. Let’s take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of sliding boards.
Spatial efficiency
Sliding boards have the property of being more space-efficient than regular boards. The secret lies in the sliding mechanism, which allows the outer (or inner or both) levels to slide. This allows the lecturer to move the board left and right, thus gaining additional space for writing without having to erase what has already been written. Thus, a sliding board can provide a 1.5-fold increase in space. In practice, this means that if the inner board is 2 m2 in size, the outer one is usually 1 m2 in size. Thus, on the existing space of 2 m2, we obtain a board with a size of 3 m2. However, we must remember that we can only see the writing surface of the size we have available for it at one time (in the described case, this is 2 m2). This means that a certain space is always covered for us, but we do not need to erase it . A sliding board comes into play in the vast majority of cases, since we almost never need an entire board to develop one idea. In most cases, we write down our thoughts in parts that can fit on half of the board. In the case of a sliding board, we are constantly looking at two halves.
Convenience
The sliding board is mainly convenient precisely because of the space efficiency that I described above. Its convenience is further enhanced by the sliding mechanism. Due to the sliding mechanism, the board is easy to move, it is limited and its movement is fast . So we can quickly and easily move the board along the guide and change the visible surface.
Improved appearance
Sliding boards are also very beautiful to look at because of the sliding mechanism. The mechanism can be obtained in any color , just like the boards. This allows you to beautifully diversify the space in which it is located.
Extremely long service life and additional features
Our magnetic and other boards have extremely high-quality sliding mechanisms, which allow them to last for several decades . High-quality mechanisms allow the boards to slide easily and silently, and at the same time allow the installation of numerous additional functions. Starting with the brakes that stop the board in the desired position, first to a soft stop and automatic return of the board to the desired position and electric movement . It is therefore possible to prepare such a mechanism that when the board is pushed to a certain side, it does not hit the edge but stops softly. Then it is possible to install another variant, so that when the board is pushed to one side (for example, to the left), it stops softly there, and when we have finished, we only move it slightly and it drives itself back to the other side (in the aforementioned case, to the right) and stops softly there. The movement of the board can also be electrified or another function can be installed according to the customer’s wishes.
Wing boards
Swing panels usually consist of a base part and wings, which are on special clamps (“hinges”) so that they can be opened and closed at will . In this way, a folded panel can be used to create a larger, open panel in a smaller space. The possibility of opening a swing panel is somewhat problematic, as it has certain limitations. To open a swing panel, you need to have space, so there must be no obstacle perpendicular to the panel. In simpler terms, in order to open a swing panel, you need to have a wall at least the width of the wing wider than the base panel. It is also possible that there is a door in the wall and the panel wing can be opened into a door, but this makes it impossible to pass through the door.
Opening of swing doors compared to sliding or lifting mechanisms
When installing a board, we usually try to avoid opening the board over a door. This means that in most cases we will only have room to open the board and thus cover only part of the wall. This raises the question of whether it makes sense to install a swing board. If we already have a wide enough wall for a swing board, wouldn’t it also be wide enough for a sliding or lifting mechanism? The answer to this question is: Yes . In principle, a sliding system can be installed in places where a swing system would be installed and it would not open over a door or other passage. The lifting system is even more flexible and can also be installed in places where the swing board system would open over a passage. The sliding system is in principle the most universal and can be installed almost everywhere. The guides that sliding and lifting boards have also offer the boards much better stability than the clamps offer to swing boards. We use higher quality clamps, but even with them it is practically impossible to achieve the same strength and reliability as boards on sliding or lifting guides.
Wing panels can be manufactured in any design and can be equipped with certain special functions, such as soft closing, adjustable opening angle, opening more than 90°, etc.
Lifting boards
Of all the options listed, lift boards are probably the best possible solution for space constraints . Usually we have a space constraint that arises due to the insufficient width of the wall, and at the same time we usually never have space above, below or even above and below the board. For such cases, lift boards are excellent. While lift boards are actually the most space-efficient, they are also aesthetic and convenient, have a long lifespan and the possibility of installing many additional functions.
Lifting boards – an efficient, aesthetic and convenient solution
Lifting boards are very space-efficient . If we have space above and below the board, it is possible to achieve 3 times the base area in a place where one board could be mounted in width. In practice, this looks like having 3 boards on the guide, with one being moved down, the other up, and the third left in the middle. It is possible to have 4 or more boards on the guide, if the height allows it. Usually, however, we will have two boards on the guide, with one being written on and the other being raised higher.
A lifting board with a guide adds extra charm to the space. With different color combinations of both the guides and the board, it complements the space and makes it more inspiring. At the same time, the lifting mechanism is also very convenient, as it is quiet, fast and easy to lift. Due to its design, the board is extremely stable and its lifespan is also very long , similar to sliding systems.
Special features for lifting boards
Sliding tables can also be upgraded with a number of features that make them more useful. For example, there are sliding tables that have a soft descent, limited lift height, automatic lifting, electric lifting, etc. Many accessories make sliding tables easier to use, but at the same time they increase their price. Lifting tables are probably the best solution for most cases, but they are also usually more expensive than the other two types. The slightly higher initial investment usually pays off very quickly.
We therefore know three specific types of tables: sliding, hinged and lifting tables. In this article, we have gone through all the types and briefly presented them.
